The director of Obsidian studio's upcoming RPG Avowed revealed that the team is still working on the game's combat system and that things have changed since the last preview/trailer during last month's Xbox Developer Direct event.

Carrie Patel, director of Avowed, appeared on the Dropped Frames podcast to provide insight into the upcoming game's development, specifically how the team is responding to community feedback, such as the game's combat system, which is still in development ahead of release. During the Xbox event, we saw the battle system being worked on, prompting comparisons to a certain Bethesda RPG. Patel commented on the comparisons to Skyrim and revealed that the upcoming action RPG is more like a "fantasy version of The Outer Worlds" from Obsidian.

Patel explained that “one of the encouraging things is to see fans point out some of the things we're actively working on, like the sense of hitting and impacts as you're attacking enemies.” The director then explains how the footage we saw during the Developer Direct was actually "several weeks behind" the game's current state of development.

In Avowed, players will explore the vast open world of Eor, namely the part of it known as the Living Lands, which will include a large number of cities, villages and dungeons, and will have its own ecosystem. The game includes classic RPG elements, as well as a variety of weapons and magic available, along with assistants who will actively participate in our adventure.
