Solo developer Nikita Sozidar is developing hack-and-slash ARPG VOIN

VOIN is a mix of the action RPG and hack-and-slash genres, with random loot, open world-like levels and roguelite elements. A demo version should be released next year. In a recently published interview with 80 Level, Nikita revealed what we can expect from this game.

You play as one of the elemental servants created by a powerful mage to fulfill one purpose: become a powerful weapon in the hands of your mysterious creators and join the quest to cleanse the world of a devastating plague that has consumed all life. VOIN draws inspiration from various games such as Diablo, Borderlands, Witchfire, Doom, Prodeus and Elden Ring, and the ultimate goal is to create a stunning first-person action RPG with a sense of exploration and engaging character progression.

My objective for the combat system was to craft a visceral, fast-paced melee combat experience in which players primarily rely on their reactions rather than their character’s power while still incorporating RPG elements, attributes, and abilities, akin to games like Diablo or Torchlight. Additionally, I aimed to ensure that active abilities wouldn’t wrest control away from the player’s character when cast. As a result, every ability can be used while moving, aiming, or dodging, contributing to the combat’s responsiveness and fluidity.

With the sword sheathed, players gain access to multiple traversal mechanics such as jumping, double jumping, mid-air dashing, and the Super Dash, a long forward dash. These mechanics provide complete freedom of exploration, enabling players to reach virtually any location or height with mastery through practice and experimentation.

You start in a central hub, where you have the option to choose which part of the world you want to explore. After choosing, you enter a spacious level similar to "open world". Each time you visit it, the experience will vary depending on the missions you take on and the enemies you face. Additionally, certain parts of the level may be unavailable at the beginning, requiring further progress in the game to unlock them.

VOIN should be released on PC via Steam.
