Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered launches this year for PC and consoles

Developer Grasshopper Manufacture decided to surprise us announcing a remastered version of the game Shadows of the Damned, which will release this year. It's an action-adventure third-person shooter that was originally released in 2011, also developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, and was available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

As a reminder, the game was directed by Massimo Guarini, produced by Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil, God Hand), while the story was written by Goichi Suda (No More Heroes, Killer7). The plot follows Garcia Hotspur, a Mexican demon hunter who ventures into the city of the damned to fight evil and rescue his girlfriend, Paula, who has been captured by the demon lord, Fleming. The same premise follows the remastered version.

Like ravers in a nightclub, demons are encouraged by darkness but weaken when exposed to light, so use your friend Johnson (the shotgun) to fight your way through the darkness of the underworld. Johnson can take three forms: pistol, shotgun, and assault rifle, all of which can be upgraded into more powerful forms or by finding blue gems left over from boss fights that add additional abilities.

Johnson can also fire a special “bullet of light”, which can be used to stun enemies and is primary for solving the “darkness” puzzles in the game. In some puzzles, the solution can only be completed while Garcia is in the dark. Darkspawn demons will often be enveloped in it even when the darkness dissipates, preventing Garcia from damaging them until he hits them with that bullet.

Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in 2024.
