The minds behind Palworld present Never Grave, a metroidvania inspired by Dead Cells

The studio behind Palworld will present us with another title this year – the metroidvania and roguelike game Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse, clearly inspired by Dead Cells. It seems that Pocketpair recognized the success of a certain concept and decided to explore a similar approach.

There is a similarity in the portals you use to move around the map, including their appearance; the layout of the map itself and probably part of the level design; breaking down doors to disorient enemies; unlocked items appear in lamps throughout the map; healing potion that you can refill between chambers etc.

But Never Grave is not just a bunch of the same ingredients reshaped into something else, it has its own unique elements. Instead of a stat system similar to Dead Cells, for example, you craft upgrades from loot, which is more like Hades. Also interesting is that you can choose from several procedurally generated maps based on the loot you'll get.

With farming elements, you have the ability to build and decorate the entire village block by block. In addition to unlocking attack and survival upgrades, food farming becomes crucial as it provides indispensable buffs every time you enter a dungeon. Farming and building seem surprisingly deep, creating a dilemma in balancing materials between character upgrades and village upgrades.

Never Grave will be available in the first quarter of this year on PC via Steam.
