Last week, the Early Access version of No Rest for the Wicked, the new action RPG from Moon Studios, was released on Steam. The game, despite the technical problems and the initially mixed reception of the players, has already attracted a significant number of them.

No Rest for the Wicked was released on April 18 and quickly attracted more than 33,000 concurrent users, according to data from SteamDB. Player interest grew over the weekend, reaching a new peak of 36,276 thousand active players. Looking at all new releases in 2024, No Rest for the Wicked ranks 17th, between free-to-play party game Astral Party (34.3K) and Backpack Battles (36.5K). This launch makes this game the biggest in Moon Studios history, ahead of Ori and the Will of the Wisps (34.8k) and Ori and the Blind Forest (13.1k).

Despite having an impressive launch, No Rest for the Wicked faced a wave of negative reviews from players within the first 24 hours. The user rating dropped to almost 50% positive reviews due to many complaints about technical issues, poor performance, and the high difficulty and durability of items that decrease with each death. Moon Studios was quick to respond to player feedback, noting that this is early access and that there will be many improvements in the future. They've already released two hotfixes that improve performance, fix bugs, and balance the game, including increasing item durability and reducing durability costs.

Due to these changes, the rating increased to 67% based on almost 13 thousand user reviews. Positive reviews highlight the game's art style, level design, combat and core gameplay, and unique mix of elements from different genres. It is probably the most ambitious project in the history of Moon Studios. At its heart, it's an open-world action RPG that combines Diablo-like mechanics, such as plenty of gear and random loot, with a Soulslike combat system. In addition to research and combat, there are also various side activities such as fishing, gathering resources, crafting and arranging your own property.

Rather, the game has the potential to become unique and somewhat innovative in the genre. According to the aforementioned studio, version 1.0 will include 4-player co-op, online PvP mode, new regions, farming and other content.
