During Nordic Game 2024, we had the opportunity to play Magical Harvest, a delightful indie game developed by MoonFlameGames that combines cozy farming simulation with magical fantasy. In the game, you shape your own enchanted farm paradise while mastering magical skills like rune carving and potion brewing.
The story is set in the world of Hyldena, where a magical incident erased magic, and players work to restore it to alleviate the despair and starvation that followed. As one of five humanoid species: humans, elves, drakys, nereids, or ki'shen, you embark on a journey to revive magic. MoonFlameGames was founded by two women from Germany, now based in Sweden, and is among the few all-female game studios.
In Magical Harvest, you can grow a variety of plants, from everyday crops to magical flora. The game features categories such as crops, trees, herbs, and flowers, each with the potential for magical evolution. Additionally, you can breed 27 species of magical animals, including elusive dragons, unlocking rare and fantastical creatures through successful crossbreeding. Hyldena also offers diverse characters to meet and date, each with unique stories and personal goals. Moreover, the dynamic dialogue system enhances these interactions, making each relationship meaningful.
Beyond farming, you can engage in activities like cooking, fishing, and brewing magical potions. With a plethora of recipes and a diverse range of colorful fish to catch, there's always something new to discover. The game also features a detailed decoration system, allowing you to design and personalize your farm and house.
Magical Harvest is currently available as a demo. You can harvest and evolve crops, crossbreed animals, use magic, explore part of the mine, and get a sneak peek of the Magical Forest. The demo version takes between 0.5 to 2 hours to complete, depending on the player's play style, and you can find it on Steam.
