On December 8, Triple Topping CEO Astrid Refstrup released a statement via X (formerly Twitter), announcing that the studio had declared bankruptcy, putting the entire team out of a job. Refstrup added that "despite an extremely difficult year 2023 across the industry, my personal health has also made it impossible for me to continue to perform the role of CEO and leader that I set myself as a role model."

In addition, Refstrup shared table that contains a list of employees, their roles and resumes, in the hope that it will help them find new jobs.

Triple Topping was founded in 2017 by Astrid Refstrup and Simon Stålhandskea. They have also been very transparent about their working conditions, posting their contract and employee handbook publicly on their website.

Known for its story-rich adventure Welcome to Elk and colorful side-scrolling platformer Ynglet, the studio is currently working on Dead Pets Unleashed, a project about a failed punk rock band with an emphasis on various management and rhythm minigames. Despite the shutdown, the team has plans to release new games that will be shared when they're ready.

During 2023, the video game industry faced a series of difficult times, with frequent news of mass layoffs and studio closures every week. According to videogamelayoffs.com, at least 9,000 people were hit by layoffs in the industry.
