If you love retro RPGs with 2-bit pixel art inspired by Pokémon, but crave something fresh, check The Edge of Allegoria

The Edge of Allegoria takes a lot of inspiration from a bunch of different places, but the most obvious one would definitely be the Pokémon franchise, particularly the original generations on the Gameboy and Gameboy Color.

Those first two generations were what really got me into gaming and laid the foundation for my love of RPGs and turn based gameplay. I also take some inspiration from other games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Earthbound, the Legend of Zelda franchise and even Elden Ring. On top of all that I take a lot of inspiration from things that have happened in my own life over the course of the last two years of development to wrap it all up in a nice neat package.

In your travels through Allegoria, encounter over 143 distinct enemies, ranging from Canada geese and grand turtles to classic fantasy creatures like dragons, unicorns, and ubiquitous sliems. Defeating them yields unique items, sellable for gold in shops to acquire essential weapons and gear for your quest.

To grow stronger in Allegoria, mastering various equipment is essential for boosting your stats. If you seek new attacks or magic spells for battles, updating your gear becomes crucial. With 80+ skills to acquire and nearly 150 equipment items to gather, exploring them all helps determine your optimal moveset.

While the residents of Allegoria might appear rugged, they're always ready to assist and guide you on your quest. They might even offer missions for you to earn gold and valuable items along the way.

The Edge of Allegoria doesn't have a specific release date, but it should be available on PC via Steam. Additionally, Kickstarter campaign for this game starts on February 1st this year.
