New changes are coming to Football Manager 2025

Over the past few years, Sports Interactive has placed an emphasis on greater transparency with its community. As a result, we received an early look at the new content and features that Football Manager 2025 (FM25) will bring through the development blog.

Recently, Sports Interactive unveiled a new logo and brand identity to mark the beginning of a new era. Additionally, after years of effort, the studio secured a partnership with the Premier League, aiming to enhance the authenticity of the FM experience. Football Manager 2024 has also reached 10 million players, the highest in the series' history.

The transition of FM25 to the Unity engine is the most significant technological change in over 20 years for this series. This change promises better graphics, more efficient development, and a larger foundation for future innovations. Unity’s flexibility will enable faster implementation of new features and design improvements. Furthermore, FM25 will introduce a new tile and card system through UI/UX changes, simplifying navigation and displaying information more effectively.

To optimize the game, several features and modes will be modified or temporarily removed:

  • Touchline Shouts: Removed due to implementation issues and will return when perfected.
  • Social Media Screen and Data Chalkboard: Consolidated into other areas of the game or removed due to low usage.
  • Create-A-Club: Paused for FM25, returning in FM26 with various improvements.
  • Versus Mode and Challenge Mode: Under review for future iterations due to low engagement.
  • Fantasy Draft: Temporarily removed, returning improved later, tied to a new esports initiative with FIFAe.

Other changes and additions

  • New technology for Newgens and manager creation.
  • New and more realistic animations.
  • Introduction of women’s football, which was initially announced in July 2021.
  • Replacement of the traditional Inbox, with a new Portal offering a richer interaction experience by integrating agendas, messages, news, and match information into a new interface.

The release date for FM25 will be announced in early September, with pre-orders opening at the same time. The studio is also considering reviving the official Football Manager Podcast for insights and stories from the professional football world. FM25 will be available on PC/Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. Details about Football Manager 25 Touch and Mobile will be shared later.
