Everything we know about Slay the Spire 2

The announcement trailer shown during the Triple-I Initiative Showcase confirmed that Slay the Spire 2 will release in 2025. We know that Slay the Spire 2 will be available for PC, and it is highly likely that the game will also be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, iOS and Android devices.

Triple-I Initiative indie showcase was a 45-minute digital event that brought together a number of independent game developers to highlight titles from established and up-and-coming teams. Among them was Slay the Spire 2, a game that will combine roguelike exploration, permadeath and gradual acquisition of cards. However, very little is still known about this title.

New characters and enemies

The developers have confirmed that a new set of slayers will join the cast, including returning characters like Ironclad and The Silent. After 1000 years, the Spire has reopened, awakening a giant alien whale known as Neow. This creature appears at the beginning of each playthrough in the original game, offering you various items before you start climbing the tower again. Consequently, you can now expect completely different creatures and monsters.

According to the game's lore, the four characters were believed to be doomed to fight for eternity, but Defect and the Watcher do not appear in the first trailer. While they may return later, only three characters are currently confirmed. In the trailer, Ironclad and Silent are seen visiting a merchant and exploring new environments. As the duo approaches the entrance to the Spire, they are joined by a third mysterious figure resembling a floating skeleton with a scythe.

According to additional information on Slay the Spire 2's Steam page, the third character is known as Necrobinder. Unique for starting with only 35 health, he is described as a wandering lich who seeks to bind forgotten corpses and relies on his trusty left arm, Osty, in battle.

In Slay the Spire 2, the Cleave card shows a mushroom being sliced in half by an axe, suggesting that it now deals high damage to single targets, judging by the new visual. The other two returning cards are Ghostly Armor and Shrug it Off, both very similar to their original versions. Molten Fist is the first new card we've spotted, though its effect remains hidden. It costs 1 mana and is likely to deal damage. Finally, the new card Hellraiser is a rare power card that costs 3 mana. Although the effect is not shown, the map image shows Ironclad surrounded by swords springing from the ground.

Moving to Godot, new mechanics are also possible

Also, Mega Crit has confirmed that they will no longer be using Unity after the fiasco that happened last year. This means that Slay the Spire 2 has since completely migrated from Unity and will use Godot, a free and open-source cross-platform engine. Many indie games are made using Godot, so this won't stop Slay the Spire 2 from being released on multiple platforms.

One screenshot shows the ability to enchant a card with a "haunted" effect, suggesting that Slay the Spire 2 will allow players to add permanent buffs or debuffs to cards between combat encounters. Mega Crit Games promises to reveal even more new gameplay features as the game's release approaches.

That's all we know about Slay the Spire 2 right now. Also, we'll be constantly updating this post as new information becomes available.
