The independent video game studio Reuben Games has received funding from the VicScreen Victorian Production Fund to aid in the development of their forthcoming title, Dead Static Drive. With the assistance of VicScreen, the game's release has been officially scheduled for Q3 2024.

Creative Director Mike Blackney expressed his excitement, saying: “I'm thrilled that we've received this support to complete the game and make all our dreams come true. I hope players enjoy playing Dead Static Drive as much as we enjoyed creating it.”

This survival game combines the atmosphere of Lovecraftian horror with the dynamics of Grand Theft Auto. Traversing ruined landscapes, you'll gather resources, clash with various enemies, and form alliances against the coming apocalypse. With its expressive visual style, Dead Static Drive offers a combination of creepy and enchanting gaming experience.

Inspired by the works of authors such as T. E. D. Klein, Gene Wolfe and Ramsey Campbell, as well as director David Lynch and photographer William Eggleston, Dead Static Drive aims to evoke a visual of America from a bygone era - a place where with the right car and enough gas, every dream was within reach.

Caroline Pitcher, CEO of VicScreen, said: "VicScreen is proud to support the talented team at Reuben Games and this highly anticipated project. From the irresistibly spooky storyline to the mesmerising graphics, audiences are set to be awestruck by Dead Static Drive. It’s content like this, that reinforces Melbourne’s reputation as global screen production hub, and we can’t wait for audiences to get their hands on the game next year."

Dead Static Drive is coming to Xbox, Game Pass and PC in Q3 2024.
