Cairn is a new mountain climbing simulation brought to us by the creators of the RPG adventure Haven

French indie studio The Game Bakers have announced Cairn, their new creation following the award-winning games Furi and Haven. Cairn takes players on a journey with professional climber Aava as she embarks on the climb of a lifetime to conquer a peak that has never been reached before.

This is a realistic mountain climbing adventure with intuitive climbing simulation that allows for natural movement of hands and feet. You are free to explore the mountain, familiarize yourself with the rocks, and decide on your own route.

The trailer highlights that climbing is challenging, with difficult sections to overcome, and you must use your equipment and pitons wisely. In the harsh high-altitude environment, you need to manage your resources and physical condition, searching for food and water with a limited number of checkpoints you can set to prevent losing progress.

“With Cairn, we are exploring a new genre we’re calling ‘Survival-Climber’. We’ve created a new kind of climbing simulation. It feels incredibly natural and intuitive, but the challenges of the mountain will test players’ resolve,” said Emeric Thoa, Creative Director at The Game Bakers.

Cairn is slated for release in 2025 for PC (Steam) and consoles.
