First-person endless runner AVOID is an indie game you're definitely missing out on

On Monday, June 17th, South African-based Donderbos Games launched AVOID on Steam, introducing an innovative twist to the endless runner genre. This first-person game offers a unique mechanic where players can rotate the world around them to avoid obstacles.

“The unique mechanic of rotating the world at 90-degree increments seems simple at first, but you soon discover unique ways to use it,” says Henk Scheepers, the developer of AVOID and founder of Donderbos Games. “For instance, you can gain more air-time from a jump by timing your twists just right or save yourself from a deadly fall by twisting the world so that you fall back towards a platform to land on.”

In addition to this world-twisting mechanic, AVOID features the staple moves expected in this genre, such as dashing and sliding. The real joy lies in combining these abilities in the correct sequence to overcome the numerous obstacles the game presents. Finally, overcoming a tough challenge after many tries is very rewarding.

Key Features of AVOID:

  • 9 Levels: Each level increases in difficulty, providing a progressively challenging experience.
  • 4 Speeds: Replay levels at faster speeds for added difficulty.
  • 3 Game Modes: Each mode features its own leaderboard, adding a competitive edge.
  • Transition Circuits: Rollercoaster-like final challenges before advancing each level.
  • Quantum Stride: A unique game mode where players stack multipliers to rack up massive scores.
  • Atmospheric Environments: Mesmerizing and visually appealing settings that enhance the gaming experience.
  • Curated Soundtrack: A meticulously selected soundtrack that matches the fast-paced action.
  • 45 Achievements: A range of achievements to unlock, adding to the game’s replayability.

AVOID is available now on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux
